A Reappraisal

Richard published a nice post called: "Is Blogging Killing Planning?"

"While I do have some sympathy with this view (most notably that the content of planning blogs tends to be around the more 'out there' thinking that we do in our day to day jobs), after nearly two years and just over 100 posts I can't help thinking that blogging is the best thing that has happened to planners since Moleskine notebooks."

Ditto.

This blog continues to one smart decision among many of my stupid ones.

But now I'm rethinking it.

When I started blogging, I
wrote: "Hmm…so let's see where these bread crumbs go..." All I wanted to do was explore the blogger experience.

It’s been a fun ride, but lately, this blog feels flat. I'm out of steam. I’ve plateaued. I've lost my "interestingness." Frankly, I'm boring myself.

Maybe that’s because I've moved beyond exploring and into enjoying. Blogging is now part of my daily routine. I use it for a variety of reasons both work and personal related. In short, its use no longer fit its purpose.

Time for a redirect.

Over the next few weeks I will sketch a new direction for this blog. I have no idea what that will be, but it'll still be in the planning and marketing realm.

I need a new purpose for this blog. I need to reinvigorate it.

Once I push thought the thick shrubs, I’ll let you know where the bread crumbs have lead me.

I'd disagree - I think you've been as prolific and interesting as anyone over the past few months. I wouldn't say you've plateaued at all.
But I know the feeling. I think it's one of the side-effects of blogging. Or maybe it's just the January blahs.
Anyway, if you do redirect things, excited to see where it all goes.

Haha. No no. I'm not fishing for compliments. But I do who-heartedly agree with Mark Twain: "I can live three months off a good compliment."

I often think a blog is a documentation of someone's search. A quest for some object of desire whether that be new trends, new ideas, marketing knowledge, an understanding of self, new cooking recipes...whatever. There is something compelling about following one person's search. It's like you're along for the ride.

My object of desire was the blogging experience. I found it. So now I want to find something new.

If I leave this blog up to happenstance, I feel like I'll get less out of it than if I give it a new purpose. Life's always better when you feel like you have a purpose or direction.

I agree with Jason. The shit here is great, don't change a thing!
(I'm so selfish)

Like all thinking, sometimes it helps to have distraction.

Your shit is - to quote your rcent post - dope. Don't give it up, but take a wander somewhere.
